About

Who am I? You sure you want to know? The story of my life is not for the faint of heart. If somebody said it was a happy little tale… if somebody told you I was just your average ordinary guy, not a care in the world… somebody lied.

26/07/2016, Graduation Day

My name is Riccardo Cannistrà, I’m an italian Computer Engineer 💻, Developer 🕵, Video Maker 📹, Film Lover 🎞. I’ll try to tell about myself without being too boring, therefore I don’t want to spend too many words about my life, however you can see the most important academic events and work experiences of my life I decide to highlight just below (check Story of my life).

Origins

When I was a kid I was dreaming to become an astronaut 🚀. Why? Maybe curiosity, maybe the need to seek for something far away from Earth, maybe the wish of floating in the universe… it’s more likely because of too many sci-fi movies 👽. Later on, I grew a passion for technology, computers and videogames, I started from simple, I enjoyed being a self-taught for some time and this made me soon a young computer geek. When things became more serious, I decided to follow this path for my life and to get more into it.

Education

From 2008 to 2013 I attended a Scientific High School in Rozzano (Milano), Italy. Since July 2016, I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, In September 2016 I started a MSc Programme in Digital Media Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), in Copenhagen. I’m trying to specialize myself within the Data Science study line, which involves a lot of Data Analysis, Big DataData Mining, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data SecurityNatural Language Processing … Unless you missed it, a lot of stuff related to data 💾. I’m currently still studying in DTU as a full time international student, enjoying all the benefits that this amazing experience is offering to me.

Work Experience

In Denmark I’ve been employed as Student Software Developer in MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, in Copenhagen in the period February-August 2016. As a student assistant, I contributed to the daily operations of database maintenance, cleanups, data visualization and extraction in the PrimeServ Spare Parts dept., by building and maintaining ad-hoc C# tools/softwares for internal purposes. This meant a big involvement of software development using C# and Microsoft Visual Studio and database manipulation with Microsoft SQL Server.

In September 2016, I started a new adventure in Microsoft Development Center Copenhagen, as a Student Software Engineer. I had the pleasure to join a Dev-Ops team working with the back-end of Dynamics NAV, part of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 software product. I’m currently employed here, and I am still pretty fresh and in training phase, therefore I’m really looking forward to learning a lot from this new experience! Please check out my LinkedIn profile for more detailed information and my Skills page.

Interests

“Beneath this mask there is more then flesh, beneath this mask there is an idea. And ideas are bulletproof!” – V for Vendetta.

Besides a strong interest in technology and computer science, I also have a very active life: I’m a fitness addict, I promote healthy life-style and I love playing sports, especially in team. I used to be a basketball player for 9 years as a playmaker 🏀, but I’m good at soccer, volleyball and table tennis. Nowadays, I spend a lot of time at the gym working out 💪.

I’m fond of film industry, As a film lover I like to spend time watching variety of movies. I also enjoy reading, although not that often and I’d rather be more constant (aah, how could I not mention I’m a big fan of The Lord of the Rings 😍…).

I’m a passionate traveller 🌎: I love travelling, visiting new places, exploring countries, meeting new people, getting in touch with new cultures, languages…

Whenever I visit new places, start new experiences or just simply something interesting and outstanding has just happened to me, I like to capture the moment with my camera and share it on YouTube (indeed you can find lots of funny/weird/interesting stuff on my official YT channel, don’t miss it!). Sometimes it’s just simple vlogging, however I try to inspire as much curiosity as possible while not being too much boring 😌.

Last but not least, I have a strong passion for Superheroes!

Graduated in Computer Engineering

I graduated in Politecnico di Milano as a Computer Engineer on July 26th, 2016. 3 years of high level education in one of the top engineering universities in Europe. This meant hard work for the whole duration of the Bachelor programme, and at the same time these years made me observe the world with a different perspective. They taught me the science behind many different topics and fields, such as Electronics, Automation, Electric Circuits, Physics, Calculus and of course, Computer Science.

My first job

I started working in MAN Diesel & Turbo SE in Copenhagen as a Student Software Developer. Getting a student job is one of the greates benefits Denmark offers to ambitious and eager to learn students. MAN is a big company, where business language is English, I could contribute to their daily job, gain valuable experience, learn lots of new technical concepts and in general aspects about companies, and last but not least, it was the very first time I could put into practice what I had studied since then!
